Do you guys want investment in public transit?

Coming from Canada to work on designing the Austin Light Rail, I think the city would REALLY benefit from a subway system. However, it all comes down to what the people want. Subways are huge investments and only a small handful of cities nationwide have them.

So, with all the chaos on the roads, I’m wondering if the people of Austin think it’s time for more investment in public transportation, or if the preference is for more road expansion projects?

Edit: people have pointed out the bedrock is shallow making subgrade transit a non starter. Let me revise subway to “better overall public transit systems”.

Edit 2: I’ve learned a lot today about the subsurface composition of central Texas, transit layout of Austin and surrounding suburbs, the demographics of the area and the political landscape. Much appreciate the helpful info ??
