Wicked proves it’s ‘popular’ with fashion brand collaborations

Wicked green is the new Barbie pink, or so it seems. With anticipation building for the release of Wicked the movie, coming to cinemas in the UK on 22 November, high street brands from Marks & Spencer to Primark are putting Wicked (pardon the pun) spins on fashion with a slew of collaborative collections. Whether shoppers are Elphaba or Glinda coded, with an ever-growing list of spell-binding collaborations, there’s something for everyone.

Primark

Primark is bringing a touch of magic to its stores with the launch of a new collection inspired by Wicked. The collection, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, features over 50 pieces across womenswear and kidswear as well as homeware and accessories.

Capturing the world of Wicked, the range includes ‘bewitching’ fashion and nightwear, accessories with prices starting at £3 for accessories and £12 for adult clothing. Standout pieces include a pink waistcoat and skirt co-ord and a green lace slip dress, for channelling Glinda or Elphaba.

Sarah Jackson, Director of Licensing at Primark, commented: “Wicked fever is building as audiences eagerly await the film’s release, and we’re delighted to partner with Universal Products & Experiences on this enchanting new collection. From vibrant occasion wear to luxury nightwear and home accessories, there’s something for everyone in store.

“We’re excited to see our customers embrace the collection and create their own magic with these pieces, all while enjoying the quality and affordability Primark is known for.”

Marks & Spencer

Celebrating the most anticipated film of the year, British retailer Marks & Spencer has launched a collection in collaboration with Wicked spanning kids’ party and daywear, sleepwear, beauty and home.

From emerald green and popular pink mini-me pyjama styles to witch-worthy accessories, shoppers are invited to pick their poison – pink or green.

If you’re looking to add a heavy dose of Oz charm to your festive décor, Christmas accessories from tree ornaments to Emerald City snow globes are also on offer.

Cambridge Satchel Company

Cambridge Satchel, the British brand known for its leather bags, is back on our radar with a Wicked collection of bags. Made up of 23 bags and accessories, the collection was designed to “translate the magic and drama of Wicked for a fashion-forward audience”. There’s even one bag that’ll be featured on the big screen.

The Elphaba-inspired designs point to the dark elegance of the character, incorporating micro-pleated velvet on signature styles such as The Mini Sophie, The Bowls Bag and The Mini Satchel. In contrast, the Glinda-inspired pieces are made from a pink sparkly material to reflect her bubbly personality.

The collection also includes a range inspired by Shiz University, the school where Elphaba and Glinda’s unlikely friendship blooms, as well as an array of character-inspired accessories such as bag charms and mini purses. The collection ranges from £45 to £525.

Kipling

Kipling is inviting shoppers to take a journey to the Land of Oz with the Wicked x Kipling Collection. The film explores themes of empowerment, equality, integrity, defiance, and sisterhood – themes Kipling was keen to get behind.

The exclusive collection features six styles: a backpack, two convertible crossbody bags, a tote, a handbag and a wristlet. Plus Kipling’s instantly recognisable monkey keychain decorated in green and pink and wings, which took inspiration from the flying monkeys seen in the musical and film.

The featured colours are, of course, green and pink rendered in a gradient nylon as well as a black, sparkling glitter. Kipling and Wicked logos can be found on the interior linings of the 100% recycled polyester bags for an added touch of pizzazz.

Crocs

With Wicked pyjamas, apparel and handbags heading to the high street, some footwear is needed to complete each and every fan’s ensemble… Enters Crocs.

Crocs has created a limited edition collection with Universal, which includes the Wicked Elphaba Classic Clog (£64.99), the Wicked Glinda Siren Clog (£89.99) and a pick of five themed Jibbitz (£18.99) that’ll add an extra dose of magic to each pair.

The Elphaba Classic Clog is a metallic green iteration of the classic iteration. Complete with a printed sole and six themed jibbitz, this Emerald pair is perfect for those looking to channel their inner green.

On the other hand, or foot, the Glinda Siren Clog is a pink platform that’s designed to make wearers stand out as “the best witch of all” or so the jibbitz charm says. The Glinda galore style is complete with pink crown and bubble charms.

Liberty London

Liberty London takes the cake as far as Wicked collaborations go. The British department store, in collaboration with Universal Pictures, is commemorating the festive season with a celebration of Wicked’s epic tale of friendship, empowerment and defiance. The collaboration features a complete takeover of the store’s renowned windows and central atrium. Even a stroll past the department store can transport onlookers in to the magical realm of Wicked through its captivating window displays.

As part of the campaign, for the craftier fans of the film, Liberty has created fabric featuring three exclusive prints. Inspired by hand-painted artwork from the Liberty archive, the Tulip Harvest print captures the lush tulip fields of Munchkinland, while Dazzling Cosmopolitan brings to life the enchanted trees leading to the gates of the Emerald City.

Both prints are featured on the retailer’s Tana Lawn cotton, which is known for silk-like feel. Durable, machine washable and versatile, it’s perfect for everything from simple separates to statement-making pieces.

Liberty x Nada Ghazal

For those who are looking for a little more glitz and glamour, fine jewellery brand Nada Ghazal is taking part in Liberty’s wicked celebrations with the launch of its exclusive capsule collection ‘Spellbound’. The collection draws from the film’s duality, paying tribute to “the contrasting yet complementary” two leading ladies.

Pink sapphires symbolize Glinda’s refined elegance, meanwhile emeralds the embody bold strength and courage of Elphaba. The collection of rings and earrings ranges in price from £2,500 – £6,000.

The Spellbound capsule collection will be showcased as part of Liberty’s activation.
