Is Lucas Bravo Leaving Emily in Paris? What Happens to Gabriel?

Lucas Bravo’s days in Emily in Paris might be coming to an end. The actor, who has played Gabriel, Emily’s main love interest, since Season 1 recently made some comments that have put into question his continued involvement with the show. Well, there’s also the fact that despite the show being called Emily in Paris, the aforementioned Emily ends the last season in Rome with new love interest Marcello.

Emily in Paris is a romantic comedy that follows Chicago marketing executive Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), who is hired to provide an American perspective at a marketing firm in Paris. Bravo was introduced early on in the show as Gabriel, Emily’s on-again, off-again French chef boyfriend. At first, he’s dating Camille, who becomes Emily’s friend, so it’s all complicated, but Emily and Gabriel get their own chance at love too. It just doesn’t last.

By the end of Season 4 Emily and Gabriel are not together, but he is still very much one of her main love interests, and perhaps the main reason Emily would have to return to Paris. And, considering the show is called Emily in Paris and not Emily in Rome, it always felt like Gabriel was very much Emily’s endgame.

Have Bravo’s comments changed the endgame for Emily and Gabriel? Is Lucas Bravo leaving Emily in Paris? What happens to Gabriel in the show? Here’s everything we know.

Is Lucas Bravo leaving Emily in Paris?

Emily in Paris

The answer to this might be maybe, for now, but it’s leaning towards yes. Bravo had some choice words to say in an interview with French outlet Le Figaro, saying that the show does not “stimulate him” and sharing with the outlet that he was debating exiting the series. These words have made fans turn on Gabriel, fast. And it seems like fans are not the only ones upset with Bravo.

While speaking about his frustrations with his character’s arc, Bravo told IndieWire that, “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him.”

Bravo also added that, “In season 1, there was a lot of me in him. But as they made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, of the dynamic, always victimizing and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone, it kind of became not fun for me to shoot. Or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him.”

More importantly, the actor made it clear he didn’t know if he wanted to continue, saying “It makes me question if I want to be part of season 5 — because my contract ends at season 4. I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self,” he said. “Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It’s a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I’m just slowly sinking into God knows what.”

Does this mean Bravo is done for good? Nothing has been announced as of yet, but sources told Us Weekly that no one is happy with his comments. “Everyone is so upset about the remarks he made. There is going to be a lot of tension,” the outlet reported, adding that if Bravo indeed leaves. “The show will go on with or without Lucas. The show is Emily in Paris — not Gabriel in Paris.”
