Travis Co. releases final batch of votes in Mayor's race— Watson still over 50% threshold overall but Williamson/Hays counts still pending. Final canvas is next week

Last night, Travis County released the final batch of votes before their official canvas next week. Kirk Watson gained 167 votes, but is now only ~22 votes over the 50% vote threshold needed to avoid a runoff (he was previously 33 votes over).

Williamson County, and I believe also Hays, still need to release the rest of their unofficial results to get a more accurate picture. Then all three counties will do their official canvassing of the results to finalize everything which will tell us if Watson is going to face off against Carmen Llanes Pulido or not. It’s also possible Wilco and Hays won’t release further results until the canvas. It’s important to remember these these numbers can change during the official canvas, too.

Grace Reader of KXAN did a great segment going into more detail about the process. Here’s the breakdown of votes added for each candidate in Travis County from the last update:

Kirk Watson: 167 votes added

Kathie Tovo: 77 votes added

Carmen Llanes Pulido: 65 votes added

Jeffrey Bowen: 25 votes added

Doug Greco: 21 votes added

50% threshold before: 174,871 votes

50% threshold now: 175,049 votes

Watson currently has 175,071 votes across all three counties.
