Katie Holmes and Lily James are just a few celebs cosying up in Countryside Core right now

Katie Holmes’s recent style is all of us right now.

The autumnal version of summer’s “cottagecore,” British countryside-core is the latest “core” to make the rounds on social media, as well as in Hollywood, apparently.

Our favourite stylish celebs known for their off-duty style have all adopted the trend, and we can see why. Laid back, cosy and practical, it’s all we want to be wearing as the temperatures take a dive and the days get (depressingly) shorter.

Katie Holmes was recently spotted pounding the pavement in NYC in various windbreakers and parkas, the latest a quilted shacket with a contrast pink collar which she paired with a canvas tote and loose-fitting jeans. The stylish mum is always referenced for seasonal, pragmatic dressing and the latest outfit speaks to the kind of bundled up look we’re all craving.

Model Taylor Hill went mad for plaid, dressing up her checkered shirt and maxi skirt with a furry satin bomber jacket, demonstrating how to wear the trend at a formal occasion.

Meanwhile, actress Lily James was cosying up against a chimney across the pond, sharing a pic of herself lounging in London wearing a lush shearling coat, wide-legged jeans and some seriously-chic brown pointed boots (brown is the colour of the season, remember?).

Both actresses have tapped into the British countryside-core aesthetic that always comes back as the leaves get crunchier, prompting us to reach for those plaid scarfs, argyle jumpers and waxed field jackets. They are essentially what you’d see Princess Diana wearing at Balmoral. However, to make the look more city-friendly, the key is to dress up the accessories, whether it’s with a chic boot like Lily or modern take on the parka like Katie.

Statement plaid is also a great way to add an interesting touch of pattern to a monochromatic ensemble. Try tying a plaid shirt around the waist or layering a scarf over a trench coat as inspired by our favourite street style stars.

This season there are plenty of brands offering up fashion-forward styles that help you lean into British countryside-core while staying in the city—just the Ganni x Barbour collab alone is stun-ning. From corduroy trousers to luxe trenches to wellies, here are the pieces we’re falling for.
