Weeeelllllp my turn to share. Sucks that it had to happen here in my home town where I was born and raised. But thanks to the truly excellent advice given in this sub my life will go on without major problems. Read on to learn how I did everything I could and still got targeted by pickpockets tonight.
Had a fantastic evening with almost no crowds. Was out supporting some independent bands touring through Austin in a well loved local venue that is adjacent to dirty 6th. Got back home only to discover that the 2 physical cards I put in my minimalist wallet before leaving home tonight are now somehow missing. My license and my emergency credit card are freaking gone without a trace. Yet somehow the cash is still in there?! Was carded at the door to enter the venue at 9:15pm. So obviously I still had my ID when I went in there. Minimalist or decoy wallet is a cheap piece of crap and it is hard to take any cards in and out of it so it is not like they would just fall out of it. Parked right in front of the venue. Like 200 feet away. Went from car to venue back to car and right back home. Will call venue tomorrow to discuss the surveillance camera situation I guess.
Thank you all so very much because tonight could have been way way worse if I had not listened to everyone in here who advised previously in other discussions about bringing a minimal wallet and a cheap alternate cell phone. Oddly my shitty decoy cell phone was in the same pocket as wallet and it was not taken. My pants are not those tight fitting skinny jeans so guessing that is what enabled the pickpocket enough wiggle room to remove and replace my wallet undetected while I stood around with friends to watch the bands. Do not recall any hard bumps during the show as the crowd was quite minimal given it was a slow Tuesday. Restroom was empty each time I went in there. Whoever got me has some ninja skills.
All my credit reports are already locked due to past well publicized data breaches. All credit agency files are already frozen or locked. Reported the one credit card stolen and replacement is on the way. I haven’t lost my wallet or misplaced a card ever in my life! Not like I don’t travel internationally on the regular. Nor am I stranger at all to watching my pockets while having a strong buzz in public places known for pickpocketing. Guess it was just my turn tonight? So everyone please be careful because even within your favorite bar with a small crowd you can get got.
If I may ask for advice: When I log in to the Texas.gov website it says I’m not eligible to request a replacement license online. When I go to ‘View Requirements’ there are NO notes as to why I’m ineligible to get a replacement for a stolen license via the online portal. Totally stumped because I have no outstanding tickets or warrants or fees or whatever. Have been at same address with same phone number for years now.
Anyone been through this same scenario with their stolen license? Any way I can save myself a long ass wait in person tomorrow to get the ball rolling on having my physical license card replaced? When I renewed it earlier this year I brought my birth certificate and social security card so they know I’m legit.
Kind of worried there is something I am overlooking here as to why someone would value my license even with locked credit reports? Please laugh at me and tell me I’m being paranoid ?
