Luxurious black and gold glow up for Sydney city bolthole

When Emma Blomfield said this was possibly the best before and after kitchen her team had ever completed, you know we had to see more! And we have to agree, the transformation is jaw dropping!

The kitchen is in a three-bed unit in Sydney’s CBD used by Emma’s clients and their adult children throughout the week, depending on their work schedules. EB Studio were given the brief of upgrading the tired kitchen, selecting new flooring and paint and adding beautiful wainscot paneling to the living room.

“The previous rooms were about 20-to-30 years old and had taken a beating,” Emma says. “The carpet was old, stained and an uninspiring colour, the furniture was collected from previous homes and the walls were in need of a good paint.

“We started with redesigning the kitchen. Most of the layout stayed as is but we tweaked a few elements and added things in like pull-out bins, an integrated dishwasher, larger sink, beautiful cylindrical rangehood and some bigger upper cabinetry to take advantage of the higher ceilings.

“We opted for the most stunning chevron flooring throughout and topped it off with crisp white walls and some beautiful wainscot paneling to frame out the TV. We swapped the layout of the lounge/dining room to make it more functional to serve food from the kitchen to the table.”

Removing a very small nib wall in the kitchen made a massive difference, opening the room right up. The other big change, apart from going for a really deep charcoal cabinet colour to add a luxurious sophistication to the room, was removing the plantation shutters from all windows and adding soft sheer curtains instead. “This assisted with sound absorption as well as looking so much nicer overall,” Emma added.

“The new look is a far cry from the old look and I love how dramatic the kitchen feels. It’s got so much more presence in the room and is such a striking feature with so many different textures to run your hand over and explore when you walk in, from the ribbed cabinet doors to the most incredible metal splashback tiles from Surface Gallery.”

The client originally did the reno with the view to potentially selling in five years’ time, but now loves it so much they’re contemplating keeping it! And if that doesn’t signify a job well done, we don’t know what does!
