NEXT to build one of its largest stores in UK at Bluewater

Since bolstering its third-party offering, NEXT has been on the up and up. After announcing it is on track to reach £1 billion in revenues, the retailer has revealed plans to triple its existing store at Bluewater shopping centre, upsizing from its existing 44,600 sq ft space to a new 133,000 sq ft store.

The “state-of-the-art store”, a space which is currently occupied by House of Fraser, will offer own-brand and third-party menswear, childrenswear, womenswear and more. Meanwhile, facilities will support NEXT’s omnichannel strategy.

NEXT will also relocate the American-based global beauty brand, Bath and Body Works, into a 2,000 sq ft neighbouring store.

Pablo Sueiras, Head of Brand Account Management at Landsec, said: “The best brands are investing in bigger, better stores in prime locations. NEXT is at the forefront of retail innovation which has made it one of the most in-demand brands among consumers.

“NEXT’s new store will transform a department store into a new destination within Bluewater and enhance the shopping experience for the millions of guests who visit each year.”

This follows 12 new lettings and five upsizes at the centre in the last six months, with beauty brands including Sephora and Aesop and fashion brands including Pull & Bear and Bershka.

Last month, NEXT said it is on track to make more than £1 billion in annual profit after raising its outlook for the third time in three months, bolstered by its key stores in key locations.

The retailer – led by chief executive Lord Simon Wolfson – put the performance down to the “early arrival of colder weather this year, versus an unusually warm September and early October last year”.
