Wicked may have only just been released, though you’d be forgiven for looking ahead to what comes next for Glinda, Elphaba and co – given that Wicked part 2 has already been confirmed for a late 2025 release.
As we’ve still more Wicked goodness to come, after the credits rolled around at the end of the film, we couldn’t help but wonder if we’d be getting one final tidbit in the form of a Wicked post-credits scene to help line us up for the next film.
So if you’re grappling with the dilemma of whether to stay put in the cinema after the movie ends, here’s what to know about a potential Wicked post-credits scene.
Is there a Wicked post-credits scene?
The short answer is no, there’s no Wicked post-credits scene that you need to hang around in the cinema for. So if you’ve got places to be, then rest assured that after “to be continued” appears on the screen, you’re sadly not getting any more Oz goodness beyond the remainder of the film’s incredible music score.
Given that Wicked part 1 ends with Cynthia Erivo’s stellar performance of the musical’s best known song ‘Defying Gravity’, it makes sense that there’s no Wicked post-credits scene because truly, how do you follow up such a major performance?
In fact, according to the film’s composer Stephen Schwartz, that’s a big part of the reason behind splitting the adaptation into two parts.
Speaking to The Schwartz Scene in 2022, the composer said “We found it very difficult to get past ‘Defying Gravity’ without a break. That song is written specifically to bring a curtain down, and whatever scene followed it without a break just seemed hugely anti-climactic.”
