Rumours began swirling yesterday afternoon that Rihanna would be attending the 2024 Fashion Awards, following the announcement that A$AP Rocky had won the Cultural Innovator Award. And the singer turned beauty mogul certainly didn’t disappoint, arriving on the red carpet in a teal minidress from Christian Lacroix’s autumn/winter 2002 couture collection, paired with a matching hat – in the words of my colleague Daniel Rodgers – of Brobdingnagian proportions.

She wasn’t the only star wearing trophy vintage: fellow attendee Mona Patel – the philanthropist and entrepreneur named by many as the best-dressed guest at this year’s Met Gala – also opted for vintage Lacroix, this time from the couture spring/summer 1996 collection. Then there was Lila Moss, who opted for an Alexander McQueen corset top from spring/summer 2003, paired with matching trousers, while Anok Yai wore a black minidress from John Galliano’s autumn/winter 1994 collection, originally worn on the runway by none other than Naomi Campbell.

While vintage on the red carpet has become increasingly popular in recent times, this year’s Fashion Awards red carpet proved that there’s still plenty of scope for archival looks to thrill all the fashion history nerds out there. Below, see all the best vintage looks from last night.
