Well, typically October is the second rainiest month and we’ve just had a trace so far. However, this large dome of high pressure that has been dominating us with clear skies and hot sun is weakening. There are some low pressure systems setting up off California and a cold front will interact with this creating some much needed rain.
Starting Wednesday the temps will decrease and the humidity will increase. Instead of temps in the upper 80’s and 90’s with bone dry humidity if 20%, we will have temps in the 70’s with very moist air, probably humidity of 70-100%. There will be a chance of rain for the next 10 days.
With the ground bone dry, the water will not be able to soak into the ground. So what you’ll have is the creeks are going to be rising quickly and lots of trash is going to be washed down. So do not swim in creeks after these floods until there’s a a few sunny days to allow the sediments to settle.
Whether this raises lake Travis is another story as we need rain in the right places, but there’s a good chance.
