Arboretum cow ears

Hi guys, just wondering what happened to the ears on the marble cow sculptures at the Arboretum. Recent pictures show cows with ears, but when we visited yesterday many of them were missing. As if they had been chiseled off. I was very sad to see this art destroyed. The cow garden was a favorite place to go when I was a child.
