I recently bought a telescope and so far… It has been a struggle. Videos online haven’t exactly been helpful, and the directions are so simple they seem to also be missing important steps as well. Combined with the fact that there are no actual instructions for its use, I’ve basically only been able to look at the moon, which was cool. But obviously I want to see more than that or I’d just have gotten some fuckin binoculars.
I was thinking of going to a star party and seeing if anyone could help, but I worry that’s rude.
I also thought of showing up at one of their meetings, and talking to people there, but also worry that’s rude and self-serving.
Anyone know where is the appropriate setting to show up and be like, “Hey guys, I’m not super bright and I need help with a telescope?”
Or, if you’d be willing to show up at my house and fuck around with my telescope with me, I might pay for that. Or even, a really awesome service that offers something like that! Seems highly unlikely though.
I get it’s a niche hobby, and I don’t want to intrude on folks’ spaces asking them to further my interests while they just do what they’re enjoying, so I’m not really sure where to turn.
