Vogue China October 2024 : Joan Chen, Carina Lau, Vivian Wu, Zhao Tao, Yan Bingyan by Trunk Xu

I think I can already see Rocco’s vision for Vogue China based on the last 2 issues. It’s going to be less experimental and ~artsy~ and more safe/elegant/commercial a la Angelica.

Unfortunately, it is nowhere close to Angelica’s best years of Vogue China. Rocco’s debut issue is extremely unimpressive, even disappointing and just so random, without a certain mood and tone that even Margaret was able to achieve at her best: It’s too a little of this and a little of that. And that sort of randomness is carried towards teh current issue as well. What he was capable of achieving at GQ China seems limited for Vogue China, maybe as a concerted effort to be less Chinese and more globally-generic and homogenized. If this is the trajectory for this rag, then it’s tragic that GQ China is gone while Vogue China exists. Angelica’s superior Vogue China mid-2000 days have yet to be challenged.
