Simone Biles is returning to our screens in the second chapter of Netflix documentary Simone Biles Rising, which looks at her time at the Paris Olympics.
The first instalment of the documentary, released in July, explored Simone’s withdrawal from the 2020 Olympics. She decided to focus on her mental health, describing her problems in Tokyo as a “trauma response”. “Your body can only function for so long before your fuses blow out,” she said, also opening up about what it’s like to be a public survivor of sexual abuse by former team doctor Larry Nassar. She was met with criticism for stepping back, but she has stuck to her truth and come back swinging.
Simone’s telling her story her way – and the second instalment of her documentary will dive deep into her incredible journey at the Paris Olympics. At 27 years old, this year she became the oldest American woman to compete in Olympic gymnastics in over 70 years. She left the Olympics with three gold medals and one silver medal. Incredible.
Simone even dropped an Emily in Paris spoof-style video to promote part 2 of Simone Biles Rising.
“Ever since I moved to Paris, my life has been chaotic and dramatic and complicated,” she says in the video – undoubtedly referencing Lily Collins’ Emily and her life, as well as perhaps her own – showcasing her love for crepes and sipping on something sparkly.
