Just a reminder for all you early morning runners: please equip yourselves with a light or reflector, or at least be extra aware of traffic around you. I’ve noticed the sun is rising later now, especially with daylight savings ending this weekend.
This morning, around 6:30 am, I was on my way to work and almost missed seeing a woman running across the intersection dressed in black yoga pants and a black shirt. Even with my windows down, she was practically invisible in the low light. She passed right in front of me, and it really shook me because it could’ve ended badly.
I actually saw two runners without any kind of light this morning. Please consider using a light or reflector, at least—it’s a simple step that could prevent accidents. I used to run too (though mostly in daylight), and even when I cycled at night, I made sure to have bright lights. Running without any visibility gear is so much riskier than cycling, which at least has reflectors.
So, please, be safe out there. Bring a light, stay aware, and always assume drivers might not see you or yield to vehicles. Thanks!
