The 2025 Golden Globe nominations are being announced by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut, officially bringing awards season into its acute phase—and giving us a better idea of which films could have the juice to make it all the way to Oscar night.
It’s been an unpredictable awards season so far, with everything from the teeny-tiny Sing Sing to the behemoth Wicked winning various precursor awards, and almost none of the other major races feeling particularly settled either. With separate “drama” and “musical or comedy” categories, the Globes are built to nominate as many people and projects as humanly possible—which may mean that they actually don’t serve as a perfect indicator of true Academy Awards momentum. If any movies pull off a major nomination sweep, though, they’ll certainly mark themselves as ones to watch before the Oscar noms are announced in January.
The 82nd Golden Globes air January 5 on CBS, hosted by Nikki Glaser.
