Today marks a new chapter in Jennifer Lopez’s collection of impossible platforms. If until now her shoe rack was full of pieces born to challenge anyone, in this case it has reached its peak. Let all the other shoes in the world retire, because they are not going to be more impressive than this pair of Gucci platforms.
We can count four layers of platform in the Italian fashion house’s Angel platforms — a style many would shy away from, but J.Lo wore as if they’re the most comfortable sneakers in the universe. This is how she posed on the red carpet of AFI Fest 2024 before a presentation of her film Unstoppable (William Goldenberg). She’s standing with all the natural-ness in the world, as if she wasn’t wearing six inches of platform under her feet.
As usual, Lopez opted to style the platforms in an unexpected way. While shoes of that calibre could call for the most grandiloquent sequinned dress in the world, Lopez prefers to keep the rest of the look almost casual. With an oversized jacket, a carefree blouse, and a very short skirt, she manages to look as if she hasn’t made excess effort at all.
What’s more, she even looks very comfortable. As if she were wearing ballerina flats and had just left the house. As if she hadn’t studied what she was wearing down to the millimetre. As if she wasn’t wearing a shoe that needs a license to fly. We can only be fascinated by such an exercise in confidence and personality.
And what happens if we zoom in on the photo? She’s wearing a trending vanilla chai manicure, glossy, golden makeup and an XXL mane with some pretty blonde highlights. So basically, she’s nailed every detail. And yet she still manages to look that effortless? It is a talent to be praised.
