Charles “Chock” Chapple, a 60-year-old Insurance Executive from Wichita, Kansas, was one of 24 contestants on the first season of The Golden Bachelorette led by Joan Vassos. Joan, a 61-year-old Private School Administrator from Rockville, Maryland, was previously a contestant on Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor with Gerry Turner, where she sent herself home in 12th place in Week 3 to care for her daughter, who had a medical emergency.

Chock was one of Joan’s few Golden Bachelorette contestants to receive a intro package on night one and even got the first one-on-one date with her of the season to Disneyland. And after Chock left The Golden Bachelorette midseason following his mother’s death and still came back, he solidified himself as a contestant who was there for the “right reasons.” But did Chock actually win The Golden Bachelorette or did Joan pick someone else in the end?

In a surprise to no one, Chock was the winner of The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 and did end up with Joan, according to Reality Steve. Joan gave Chock her final rose in The Golden Bachelorette finale after her two other finalists — Guy Gansert, a 66-year-old ER Doctor from Reno, Nevada, and Pascal Ibgur, a 69-year-old Salon Owner from Glencoe, Illinois — went home following Fantasy Suite Dates. (Reality Steve couldn’t confirm whether Joan and Chock got engaged.)

At the time, Reality Steve couldn’t confirm whether Guy or Pascal was Joan’s runner-up and third-place finalist, but he could confirm that Chock was her winner and that Pascal self-eliminated because he wasn’t in love with Joan, while Joan sent Guy home. Reality Steve originally reported that Chock came in third place on Joan’s Golden Bachelorette season, while Guy was her winner. However, he later corrected himself and confirmed that Chock was Joan’s winner.

Though Chock’s win shouldn’t come as a surprise to Golden Bachelorette viewers, some fans may be disappointed to learn he was Joan’s winner after the backlash he received monopolizing Joan’s time during a bowling group dae in Week 6.

“Someone give me a box of tissues. I’m so sad Joan sent home Mark. He’s such a sweetheart.💔 Instead she chooses a guy like Chock for hometowns. Don’t get me started on his weird name.😅 He gives me such bad vibes. He seems super possessive and controlling,” a user wrote on X after the episode, referencing Joan’s elimination of Mark Anderson in seventh place. “All I have to say is this: IMO, Chock is creepy, obsessive and possessive. She made a big mistake. She should have chosen Jonathan or Keith in his place… #TheGoldenBachelorette #goldenbachelorette,” another user wrote, referencing Joan’s eliminations of Jonathan Rone and Keith Gordon at the rose ceremony later in the episode. One user wrote, “Chock out here giving us all the ick. #GoldenBachelorette.”

Others, however, predicted that Chock would win as soon as he returned to The Golden Bachelorette after leaving the show briefly following the death of his mother. “joan’s reaction to chock coming back feels like they’ve been together forever 😭 wrap up the show, these two are IT #TheGoldenBachelorette,” a user wrote on X. Another user tweeted, “Chock’s mother just died and he CAME BACK!!! Joan, this man is IN LOVE with you #TheGoldenBachelorette #Goldenbachelorette.”
