Fenwick reinterprets this iconic Christmas song for festive window display

Fenwick is ringing in the festive season with the unveiling of its Christmas window display at its flagship in Newcastle. The window series retells the classic story of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ but with a Fenwick spin, of course.

The ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ by Fenwick was reimagined by celebrated author and illustrator Chris Riddell and brought to life by family-owned British design and production house, Propability.

Visitors are invited to follow the story of Foggy, a determined partridge with a Christmas wish, on a journey through festive-themed windows.

Chris Riddell said: “When I was asked by Fenwick if I could transform one of my favourite Christmas carols into a Fenwick window series, I was intrigued by the process. I got to work and created a character ‘Foggy the Partridge’, who’s on a journey to make his Christmas wish come true.

“My drawings and narrative have been brought to life through brilliant 3D creatives and fantastic moving characters – with the support of traditional mechanical movement. I’m absolutely thrilled with what we have created and hope everyone enjoys the windows as much as I do.”

Fenwick’s Christmas Windows follow Foggy’s quest to find Santa and make his pear tree grow, starting at Broom Cupboard of Santa’s workshop.

Moving through to the Secret Workshop, Foggy discovers five golden rings in a dazzling display, before reaching Santa’s Private Office, filled with six geese a-laying and seven swans a-swimming.

Paul Baptiste, Head of Creative at Fenwick, commented: “This festive season, we’re bringing a touch of the unexpected. Our take on the classic Christmas carol honours timeless traditions of a familiar Christmas, while offering a fresh Fenwick perspective, with a dash of surprise.”

Fenwick is also using this opportunity to continue its commitment to supporting the local community and the Newcastle Foodbank. Visitors are invited to purchase a Fans Supporting Foodbanks T-shirt, which is part of the window display, for £20. All profits will go to the Newcastle Foodbank.

The crowd-enticing window display was launched just weeks after Fenwick published its financial statement for the 52 weeks ending 26 January 2024. The retailer blamed the “cost-of-living crisis and a changing retail environment” for its pre-tax loss of £28.4 million.

The 2024 Fenwick Christmas windows are on display from today for the duration of the festive season.
