Pamela Anderson created a beautiful moment on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, inspiring host Drew Barrymore and correspondent Valerie Bertinelli to follow in her footsteps and take all of their makeup off. Barrymore was so into the movement that she even took her hair extensions out.
At the start of the segment, Barrymore explained that everyone in the studio audience was “going au naturale…this is our Bare Is Beautiful show.” She spotlighted an audience member named Linda who, at 61 and after removing multiple skin cancers from her face, often used cosmetics to deal with insecurities. But, inspired by Barrymore embracing her “lines,” she was makeup-free and glowing that day.
Using micellar water and a soft pad, Barrymore and Bertinelli then removed their own makeup, with Bertinelli seeing herself on the monitor and saying, “I look like me. I think I always look like me. Hi, Val.” She told Barrymore, “You look like your beautiful self.” The Never Been Kissed star put her hair up because that style makes her “feel better.”
Then they invited Woman of the Year Anderson to join them and recount her decision to go makeup-free at Paris Fashion Week last year, starting a small but mighty movement. Pamela Anderson has since attended a number of high-profile events wearing no or minimal cosmetics. But maybe the best part was when, unprompted, Drew Barrymore said, “If we’re really going to be honest here…” and let her hair down before taking out her clipped-in extensions.
When we talk about unrealistic beauty standards, we often take for granted that stars onscreen are wearing makeup. After all, you can usually tell. But we don’t always realise that they’re often wearing extensions and wigs too. If you’re wondering why, despite a mountain of products, you can’t get your own hair to be as full as your favourite celebrity’s…well, that’s why. To paraphrase Ariana Grande: You like her hair? Gee thanks, she bought it.
