If cowboy copper has defined red hair trends since 2023, autumn 2024 has ushered in a wave of bold, rich tones like cherry cola and burgundy plum. Now, Camila Mendes is adding a little bit of spice with red-hot chilli pepper hair.
The 30-year-old actor best known for playing iconic brunette Veronica Lodge on Riverdale has officially crossed over into Madelaine Petsch territory, though she went for a much deeper shade of red than her former costar did. On 10 November, Camila casually debuted her dramatic transformation with a series of mirror selfies from an airport bathroom as if it wasn’t going to send fans of the blondebrunetteredhead TikTok account—which she shares with Madelaine and Lili Reinhart—spiralling in the comments section.
“Just a newly minted redhead with a flight delay and an empty bathroom all to herself,” she captioned the post, tagging celebrity hair colourist Matt Rez. Matt responded to the post with a series of chilli pepper emojis, seemingly dubbing the shade “red-hot chilli pepper.”
Though the colour might have something to do with her upcoming role in the film adaptation of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise, the spicy shade is perfect for cool-toned brunettes looking to go red red this winter.

Of course, Camila Mendes and her stunning hair transformation wouldn’t look quite as luxurious if she weren’t wearing a phwoar take on an airport ’fit.
Instead of basic sweats and an oversized hoodie, Camila stayed cosy and chic in a taupe cashmere sweater (£618) and matching pants (£876) by Aya Muse, which she topped off with a classic trench coat.
