The season is upon us and who doesn’t love a party around here – the glam, the fun, the food! But navigating what to wear in a sea of party outfit options can be very overwhelming. Personally I always want to look effortlessly stylish but striking the right balance between looking relaxed and elegant can take a lot of effort (oh the irony).

I’ve put together an edit for those big events in your calendar that call for you to get properly dressed up. Black tie, evening, cocktail – I’ve rounded up some of the best pieces (including some that I own) that exude glamour and will ensure you look and feel the part for whatever it is you’re attending.

Keep scrolling for the pieces that get 5 stars from me!

Black tie options

If you need to observe a black tie dress code, I’ve carefully handpicked 12 options that are perfect for the occasion. This won’t be your typical night out on the town, this is as glitzy and as glamorous as it gets! While that can be overwhelming, the process will be enjoyable if you approach it with some level of planning.

Whether you’ve RSVP’d to an upcoming black tie event or you’re just generally curious about the dress code, I’ve found some show stopping gowns to make your preparation easier. There’s this show-stopping green dress by Anna Quan inspired by the dress Keira Knightley wore in Atonement. I’ve also found some beautiful gowns from Carla Zampatti (all on sale by the way here, here and here) that flow and drape beautifully, in amongst some other floor-length gems I’ve found while on my dress-hunting frolic.

Under $300

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to shell out a fortune to feel a million bucks. There are so many beautiful cocktail and party dresses that you can nab for under $300 if you look hard enough. There’s this timeless belt back navy dress from St. Agni that I featured recently on my Instagram and also pictured below (currently on sale!) that also comes in white. I’ve also included some summery pastel options (like this one and this one) and some lovely prints as well (see here and here).

Over $300

Considering the majority of party wear falls in this category, the world is your oyster and I struggled to narrow this down to a select few considering all the options! I recent bought this Anna Quan dress and loved the drop waist skirt design so that deserves an honourable mention (she can do no wrong!). There are also some beautifully festive options from Oroton, who excel at occasionwear (like this dress and this dress). This navy velvet halter-neck dress from Viktoria & Woods is stunning and if you’re after some colour and print, look no further than Alemais (I love this dress and this dress in particular!).
