The highly anticipated First Light residential development is making waves in the heart of South Melbourne. With spectacular views spanning Albert Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, First Light is a 26-storey marvel featuring 44 luxurious apartments and the debut of Nu by YOO hotel, an Oceania first for the internationally acclaimed Philippe Starck hotel group.

Rather than following contemporary design trends, Léo Terrando, the apartments’ interior designer, sought to redefine luxury. “I really wanted to do something different here,” says Léo, who focused on creating a calming, continuous material flow throughout the residences. The use of pearl travertine throughout the apartments achieves a serene, unified visual effect, distinct from the overly diverse material choices often seen in high-end dwellings.
The kitchen integrates innovative appliances and design elements that elevate both form and function. This includes the world first installation of Miele’s ArtLine series, featuring a striking obsidian matte black finish. The Miele appliances, known for their durability and cutting-edge technology, are paired with a bespoke system from iconic Italian design brand Boffi.
The Combine Evolution Island by Boffi’s creative director Piero Lissoni, offers an adaptable kitchen experience. The island bench allows residents to customise functional modules to their needs, with an inward-bevelled worktop that integrates seamlessly with the induction cooktop. The MDI surface, made from man-made stone incorporating recycled products, ensures both luxury and sustainability in equal measure.
The elegant ArtLine series by Miele, the first of its kind globally, complements the kitchen’s restrained colour palette, which echoes the tranquil atmosphere found throughout the apartment. Each oven model features a sleek, handleless design, made possible by Touch2Open technology. This innovative appliance range is integrated into the minimalist design, providing functionality while reinforcing the development’s focus on understated elegance.
The apartments at First Light also offer a host of other firsts, including convenient access to dining from celebrated chef Scott Pickett. Residents can indulge in culinary creations from the restaurant located within the Nu by YOO hotel, with dishes delivered directly to their homes for easy reheating.
