Windsor Castle, the estate where Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children live, was burglarized on October 13, 2024. The family was believed to be sleeping nearby when the crime occurred.
Officials told NBC News that the perpetrators broke in “at a property on Crown Estate land “at around 11:45pm on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The offenders entered a farm building and “made off with a black Izuzu pickup and a red quad bike” before heading toward a nearby town, police said. “No arrests have been made at this stage and an investigation is ongoing,” the statement added.
The Prince and Princess of Wales as well as their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis live five minutes away in Adelaide Cottage. King Charles and Queen Camilla were not at the residence. Sources told The Sun that suspects might have been familiar with the residence before they struck. “They would have to have known the vehicles were stored there before they broke in and known when was the best time to get and escape without being caught,” a source told The Sun. “So they must have been watching Windsor Castle for a while.”

“There are alarms at Windsor Castle but the first time anyone knew there was a break-in was when they crashed through the security barrier at Shaw Farm Gate exit,” the source continued, “The barrier has needed to be replaced as it was so badly damaged.”
The Wales moved to Adelaide Cottage in 2022. “By being in Windsor they’re only 20 miles from Central London and Buckingham Palace and it’s a beautiful environment that’s steeped in history and such a special location to call home,” a source told Us Magazine. Since their move, Princess Kate Middleton was diagnosed with an unnamed cancer. She completed her chemotherapy in September 2024— just one month before the burglary.
“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” Kate said in a video statement. The couple made their first official appearance after her treatment in Southport, a town in the northwest of England, on October 11, 2024.
