But first: Christmas. VB chose a classic black suit worn over a sheer lace halter-neck bodysuit for the cocktail party, which saw Greta Gerwig and Tate director Maria Balshaw sipping smoky cinnamon margaritas surrounded by stunning antique furniture sourced by Uniacke for the store. The look was perfectly reflective of Beckham’s approach to party season dressing. “I love good tailoring,” she says. “I never like anything too complicated, I always like quite a simple but strong silhouette.”
At this time of year, then, it’s all about the accessories – be it a skinny belt with shimmering hardware, a beautiful cuff or the “perfect evening bag”, Victoria says, brandishing the one that fit the bill tonight: a daintily proportioned Dorian in burgundy leather. “You don’t want to look like you’re trying to hard,” she notes. Rather, “easy and effortless – but cool at the same time”.
Unsurprisingly, she’s as exacting when it comes to Christmas decorations as Christmas dressing. There were no baubles or bows on the towering trees now dotted around Beckham’s Dover Street store, which were naked save for the subtlest sprinkling of lights. It sounds like the family home is a tinsel-free zone, too. “I am quite… specific… about decorations,” smiles Beckham, brow arched ever so slightly. “We have some beautiful little tea lights outside the house on our olive trees. Then just a simple Christmas tree with tea lights,” she continues, before repeating her earlier mantra: “Nothing too complicated.”
