Jennifer Lopez could easily teach us a few new tricks; dancing and acting come to mind first, but what I’d really like to learn from her is how she makes the most casual did-it-while-stopped-at-a-red-light-with-no-mirror updo look so freakin’ fabulous.
JLo was spotted in Los Angeles this weekend looking simultaneously low-key, yet super-polished— the way I dream of looking to run errands even though I throw on bathroom-floor jeans with the T-shirt I slept in. But what really separates my out-and-about look from Jen’s is how effortlessly cool her hair looks.
Her updo has the finished, voluminous look of something you might expect to see for a formal red-carpet event, but the intentional messiness of an IDGAF vibe. It’s unclear what exactly is holding up her hair, and to be honest, a lot of her hair isn’t even up — virtually everything from her ears forward is a giant tendril. From the side, you can see that it’s loosely twisted, with the ends poking out in a small, ponytail-esque arch.
To complete the look, Jennifer paired the updo with an all-black outfit, including oversized black sunglasses, a pussybow fine knit and tailored trousers with a quilted bag and gold chain.
It isn’t just on off-duty days that Jennifer Lopez favours a messy updo though. At this year’s Met Gala (arguably the most prestigious fashion and beauty event of each year), Jen served up a gorgeously dishevelled mussy bun with lots of texture and loose tendrils, only this time, she paired it with a custom-made Schiaparelli gown.
So, for a hairstyle that works across all occasions, we’ll be saving Jennifer’s mussy updo for later.
