Turn Preloved Clothes into Stitch Fix Credits

With an excessive 100 billion garments produced each year, there’s really no skirting it: the clothing industry is not exactly friendly to this precious planet we call home. We at Stitch Fix always try to do our part to change that, and we’re excited that our latest partnership with ThredUp is a solid step toward the pursuit of more sustainable fashion.

We’ve partnered up with ThredUp—the leader in online consignment and thrifting, where you can both sell your preloved clothes and purchase others’—to make it easy to give your quality pre-owned clothing and accessories the best possible chance at a second life. And here’s the best part: for a limited time, you can earn an extra 15% in Stitch Fix shopping credit when you use your latest Fix box to consign preloved clothes with ThredUp!

Cleaning out your closet: Our Stylists’ guide

Want to give it a shot but not exactly sure where to begin? We asked Landess, one of our expert Stylists with a personal passion for thrifting, to share a few simple tips for a successful closet cleanout.

  1. “If you haven’t worn (or even touched) something in 6 months or longer—not counting seasonal pieces, of course—it’s probably time to let it go.”
  2. “When you start the process of decluttering your closet, take inventory of what you’re getting rid of. Is the fit off? Does the color not suit you? Is the material uncomfortable? Refining your style and preferences will help you make better choices when adding new items to your wardrobe.”
  3. “Do your best to honestly reassess sizing discrepancies—do you need to update to new sizing?”
  4. As you go, sort your clothes into three piles: to donate, to consign to ThredUp and to toss. For the toss pile, try searching out local spots that recycle preloved clothes—the less clothing that ends up in landfills, the happier our planet.
